PHONICS & PHONEMIC AWARENESS
WORKSHEET INDEX

Hello Folks! The table below shows the index to our very popular Phonics and Phonemic Awareness Worksheets. Many people are not aware of the difference between phonics and phonemic awareness - While phonics is knowing the sound made by the letter(s), phonemic awareness is understanding where that sound is heard (i.e. beginning or ending of the word). These powerful worksheets will develop a thorough understanding of phonics and phonemic awareness skills for consonants - blends - digraphs - diphthongs - and r-controlled vowels.  Each row below teaches 20 important words sharing a common vowel sound or reading rule.  The Worksheet LESSONS have been designed using a gradual increase in difficulty from one skill to the next. This "gradual" sequential skill building is a special technique which greatly speeds the  memorization process by introducing only a small amount of new material with each skill worksheet while also providing additional practice of the previous skill.  This not only results in more efficient learning, but also provides an activity which reduces frustration and increases child self-esteem.   Certainly, a winning combination!  When completed, a student will be able to click on the picture to hear a TampaRead's instructor explain the name of the picture and help with decoding the word properly. Typically, these words are taught in 1st Grade, but can be used in any grade to help master sounds and phonemic awareness skills. By the way - while phonics and phonemic awareness are important for learning to read effectively, these skills are essential for being able to help with spelling unknown words.
