Category Organization
ReadingKEY Grade 4 Vocabulary Program
The page gives access to the Grade 4 vocabulary
materials organized along similar categories rather than phonics
organization. While research from No Child Left Behind has
found that phonics oriented instruction results in far greater progress in
less time, the category organization is excellent for gifted students or as
a review at the end of the year. When working with students in a
lower-socioeconomic setting, or with any student showing difficulty in
learning to read, it is very important to use the phonics organized
materials located in our main index. |

CLASSROOM READING WALL
If you have a class of 7 - 30 students, this is a highly efficient way to teach the
4th
Grade Reading Vocabulary words. Place the new list in front of the class when
introducing the week's new words and follow the directions outlined at the top of each
list. Vowel sounds have been color coded and letters are big enough to be seen over
30 feet across the room. Its inherent design teaches phonemic awareness - proper
decoding skills - and essential reading vocabulary. These columns parallel the words
in the same order as they appear in our Grade 4 Vocabulary List and Vocabulary Building
Worksheets. |

STUDENT READING WALL
MOST IMPORTANT GRADE 4 FILE
Our Grade 4 Student Reading Wall columns will dramatically accelerate the speed in
which a child learns the new 4th Grade reading words. In the school environment -
these lists are designed to be used with students who are not able to maintain normal
daily progress with the Classroom Reading Wall strategies above. Our research has
shown that 10 minutes of "one-on-one" practice daily is sufficient for achieving
mastery with students who are "falling-behind." The Student Reading Wall
is also the perfect reading tool to use for Home School or older students who are reading
below grade level. While the Reading Wall Lists for Grades 1 - 2 and 3 are
arranged according to common vowel sounds, the words in the 4th Grade Reading Wall are
presented in related categories of academic and social importance (i.e. words which
describe measurement - size descriptions - frequency - position - job categories
- etc.) If you are a teacher, line these columns along the back of the class or
hallway for organized practice. Have your assistant - volunteer - or 5th grade
helper work with the students you identify. If you are a parent or tutor, line as
many columns as you can along a living room wall to organize and motivate your child's
instruction. When using the "Time Cards" below get ready to see a level
enthusiasm that will have you smiling in no time. Make sure you learn the trick
called "Stop at the Vowel Sound." It is described in detail in the
"Time Cards" below and is truly an amazing and powerful technique. |

READING WALL TIME CARD
Place one of these "Time Card" above each column "LEVEL" of the
"Student Teaching Wall." It is used to record the number of seconds it
takes a student to say the column words and will result in astounding motivation for your
students. |

BUILDING WORKSHEETS
Our Vocabulary Building Worksheets parallel the same words used in our 4th Grade
Vocabulary List and Reading Wall. These are a great "follow-up" once you
have reviewed and practiced the "Days" Vocabulary words. To increase word
memorization, each worksheet uses 3 strategies including - Recognition Memory - Scrambled
Letters and "Fill-in-the-Blank". Give your student(s) any worksheet and
they will be engaged in 20 minutes of concentrated learning. |
